Shabbona Main Street Parade

Please join the Shabbona Hometown Events Committee and the community in celebrating our country’s Independence Day by participating in Shabbona’s 2010 Main Street Parade! The parade captures the essence of both America’s freedom and small town rural living with proud participation from our local military heroes, American Legion, fire departments, farmers, and local clubs and businesses. You are invited to attend and participate in this patriotic tradition! Decorate a float, clean up your car, dust off the tractor, dress up, or walk with your favorite group. Whatever your imagination can bring, share it with everybody with an entry in the parade.

Parade Entry Applications must be received by June 19th, 2010.

Parade Route:

Rules for Parade Participants:
1. ALL ENTRIES RECEIVED AFTER THE DEADLINE WILL BE PLACED AT THE END
2. Appropriate entries not in place by 11:30 AM will not be judged.
3. Candy may be handed out to the spectators.
4. No water balloons, paint guns or any such items are allowed in the parade.
5. All entries must remain in their assigned positions. Each entry will have a numbered card.

Parking / Street Closures:
The parade route requires the closure of major roads throughout the village. We understand the difficulties this can cause and do our best to avoid prolonged interruptions in normal travel. The parade usually lasts no longer than 90 minutes and traffic is then allowed to continue normally.

We ask that citizens and visitors to be aware that the following closures and detours will be in place from 12:00 pm until approximately 01:30 pm:

1. East and Westbound US 30 Traffic will be detoured along Indian and Preserve Roads.
2. Northbound Traffic on Shabbona Road, south of town will be detoured onto Preserve Road.
3. Southbound Traffic on Shabbona Road, north of town will be turned around.

Parking is on a first come - first serve basis. Because of this and the necessary street closures, we recommend arriving in town early. Travel into and through town is virtually impossible once the parade begins.

Judging Considerations:
1. All participants must be in place by 11:30 am to be judged.
2. Judging will be based on: color, creativity, general appearance, workmanship, interpretation of this year's theme "SMALL TOWN - BIG PRIDE", and originality and pride in Shabbona.

Prizes:
1. 1st Place/ Best of Show will receive a 1st place trophy and $100
2. 2nd place Trophy
3. 3rd place Trophy
